The ETUI is pleased to invite you to an online webinar on ‘Job guarantee programmes in Europe: a tool for recovery, resilience and just transition?’

The EU economies and societies are in a state of flux. The pandemic has caused economic turbulence of historic proportions just when a growth strategy with the ambition to turn Europe the first net zero-carbon economy was launched and an action plan for implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights was being prepared. The pandemic has brought into even sharper relief issues of labour market and social inequality which will have to be addressed if a new and sustainable socio-economic contract is to be agreed and lead the necessary economic and societal transformations. At the same time, there seems to be some shift in the economic ideas informing the policy recommendations of international economic organisations and institutions.

What role could programmes of job guarantee play in this process? Could it help support the macroeconomic stabilization to full and high quality employment that has been eluding many member states since the last crisis? Could it support the just transition to a fairer sustainable and digital economy with higher well-being for citizens? Would it be feasible in the context of EMU and what can the experience of EU member states tell us?
