This Valentine’s Day we want justice for children, not chocolate made by children! Our continuing investigation reveals that the hazelnuts that end up in Nutella and Ferrero Rocher are likely picked by children in Turkey.[1] Ferrero recently confirmed that they buy from a merchant who supplies hazelnuts from farms where we found child labour. [2]

Now that our story has been published all over the world and close to 90,000 have signed our petition, one of our targets, Ferrero’s Hazelnut Company Officer, has agreed to meet with us in early March to “find solutions.”

This will be our first meeting with Ferrero. To get the most out of it, we need to show Ferrero that our demands are supported by a lot of citizens (and potential customers) from all over Europe. This is where you come in!

On Valentine’s Day when many people will be buying hazelnut-filled Ferrero Rochers, let’s post this picture on Ferrero's Facebook page demanding action!

We want Ferrero to stop using child labour, to respect human rights, to give a fair price for hazelnuts, to act with transparency, and to meet with us in Turkey
Our demands for Ferrero

And when we meet Ferrero in early March, with your support we’ll have the backing necessary to make sure the chocolate company responds to each of our demands.

Help us ensure Ferrero stops child labour

We wanted to meet in Turkey so that Ferrero could speak to farmers and labourers, the very people who harvest the hazelnuts used by Ferrero, who are paid far below living wage, and as a result bring their children to work with them. But for now they’ve refused - instead we will meet with them 1-2-1 in Rome.

Help us show Ferrero that we mean business and that our community will not let up until Ferrero takes action.

Send Ferrero your comment + our demands to stop child labour

We’ll update you on how our meeting went with Ferrero. We crowdfunded the investigation into Ferrero back in June 2019 and launched the petition at the end of last year. This year, we’re not going to give them any respite: we’re hoping to go back to Turkey in the summer during the hazelnut season to see if anything has changed, and with our partners Global March and 100 million we’ll be lobbying for a EU law to address human rights and environmental abuses in corporate supply chains.

With persistance,

David, Giulio (Rome), and the entire WeMove Europe team
